RE: KOA starting to require their CG's to conform

Over the last couple of years, we've stayed at a KOA on our routes between projects. Have no complaints since we usually only need electric for a one-niter.

RE: doubletree select suites brakes

We don't have disc brakes on our 06 Suite. The IBC on our 08 F450 is compatible. The only time we got the "trailer disconnect" message was when the trailer was sitting parked at the CG. It was because the aftermarket plug in the bed was not soldered. Once the Ford dealer soldered it for us, we didn't get the message.

RE: Extended stay in Moble Home Park

Many of the RV Parks's we've stayed in are either connected to a MHPark or have a section of single wide's. The one we're in now has a few mixed in with the RV spots. It's one of the cleanest, most open and cheaper ones. :B

RE: Residency Requirements (Here we go again!)

In 2005, FL DMV also required a physical address for where we live/park the RV when we're in the area. We put down the RVPark address.

RE: Need Wisdom/Help on where to live fulltiming in N. Virginia

Look into Hillside RV Park, Gainesville, VA and Greenville Farm CG, Haymarket, VA. Hillwood is in a great location, but isn't a good place to park. Drive through it and you'll realize why. Greenville Fam Farm has a 2 week limit. DH just called and we're waiting to see if they will extend that to 16 wks for us. My recommendation is contact a mobile home park. We stayed at one in Fredericksburg a couple of years ago for only $450 a mo.

RE: Residency Requirements (Here we go again!)

If you want to maintain a NC address, but travel for extended periods, why not consider a UPS Store or Mom and Pop type mail forwarder in your town? They will take care of your needs exactly as you spelled it out with just a phone call. "Hold my mail" or "Ship it to XXX Address to arrive before Friday"

Somebody must have listened because no labels are on the Carri-lite interior pictures.

RE: more efficient furnace

How about suppliment the furnace with a nice electric heater. I really like my 1500 watt oil filled radiator style heater. We haven't had to winter that far north yet but I also love my oil filled radiator in the living area. Quiet and efficient, but can take up some space. I turn it down at night to let the furnace kick on at night to keep water and basement items from freezing. Last winter, we also added a basement heater to make sure we would stay comfortable in below freezing temps.

RE: WOW, they are reading what we post.....

I know they read forums. Some RV salesmen roll their eyes when we say, we read and post to forums. Others know they get valuable information on how to improve their products and service.

RE: Teton Help

In July, we took a mini-tour at the Carriage factory. DH & I were impressed, but we didn't really like some of the finishes or floorplan of the Royals. The next morning, we went on the DRV (DoubleTree) tour, we decided we'd stick with the same brand. They made so many new changes that we put a new custom Mobile Suite on order in August for one of their new floorplans. How we did it: I took the 2009 price lists and calculated the price we were expecting to pay and what our trade in was worth. Did ya'll order another Elite???? A camp host at our local SP just had his Elite Suites arrive a few weeks ago it's awesome Full Body Paint. But what surprised me is he also went out and bought a 3500 Gmc to tow it.i made a comment to him if the 3500 could handle it and he said no problem.. Wow that's a lot of trailer for a 3500 GMC. We went with a larger 38' (new plan for 2009) Mobile Suite and paid extra for a fiberglass roof. We didn't want to pay for the Full body paint when what we have has held up well over the last 2 1/2 years. I also decided the new solid surface countertops were easier to maintain than granite and I like the old granite color over the black. Plus, I like the stainless appliances vs the black ones on the Elite. So we saved a few $'s. We pulled our GVWR 18.5k with a Chevy 3500 for over a year. Had to keep it light and DH and I were always disagreeing about what we could take with us. But once we went to the F450, that solved our issue. All Elites except for a few early ones are rated at 20k and all 38' Mobiles IF you request factory options and proper badging.

RE: Any problems with your Doubletree Elite

DRV has changed how the original Elite roof was made in 2006. That's why we put in our order for a 2009 Mobile Suite and requested the fiberglass roof upgrade. It's easier to clean and keeps the exterior looking better. DH can walk on it without problems. DH's work schedule and location of a dealer were our only problems getting repairs done. But DRV CSR will authorize non-DRV dealers to work on one as needed. DH just does all the work himself, usually with supplies shipped from the factory.

RE: air card companys?

DH has a Verizon for his work laptop and we just replaced our Hughes dish with an AT&T USB card. First one is paid by employer, 2nd one is cheaper than our Hughes bill. We were working on the theory in case one doesn't have coverage in the area, the other could be. Or he can just drive me and the laptop to the nearest Interstate to pay bills once a week! LOL

RE: need help improving on a Travasak

When we had a TC, I took two flat sheets, sewed the bottoms together and up the sides about 2-3', so it didn't constrict us from climbing in or out. We used a standard comforter on top that didn't slide off. Our feet were always warm, but it was easy to kick off the covers if it was too warm.

RE: FT couple on Oprah

We watched it. I had read about it coming up on their blog. Was a prefect example of how someone does it right. They didn't mention they workamp, which of course helps with the cash flow.

RE: Atlanta Ga. Now running out

It's not restricted to GA. Parts of AL has been out of diesel for awhile. DH has to drive a few miles to the Flying J to refill instead of the 2 stations near his jobsite.

RE: Teton Help

I have heard that Carriage does make a fine RV. Any ideas on what the Carriage Royal would sale for? Again do you think you should start your "bickering" at about 30% of MSRP? In July, we took a mini-tour at the Carriage factory. DH & I were impressed, but we didn't really like some of the finishes or floorplan of the Royals. The next morning, we went on the DRV (DoubleTree) tour, we decided we'd stick with the same brand. RE: Teton Help

My calculator says that's only a 13% discount. According to an earlier thread, at the Hershey Show, they were offering 40% off. Unless they increase it to 25%-30% off, I wouldn't bother. You're taking most of the risk and they're getting the reward!

RE: AT&T Aircard speed

We just got ours Friday and are in a 3G area. DH uses Verizon with his work laptop and it wasn't as fast when I was forced to use it all day Friday. We've been in some areas that get poor Verizon coverage. We went with AT&T because of price (FREE - after rebate) and because we have an iPhone which also uses Edge. Monthly charge will be less than our Hughes.net was.

RE: 08 F 450 ?s

I'm not trying to start something but I always wonder why someone goes back to a brand that has treated them so poorly? I guess there is not much choice. You're right. I hated to let go of my 2005 LT Silverado leather seats. They were as comfortable as our Tahoe. It never gave us any problems in over 2 years. But when we upgraded to the 18.5k 5er, GM didn't have anything to tow our new 5er. We looked for over a year for a replacement. So we went back to Ford. Now we're upgrading to a 20k 5er and don't have to trade the F450. We've replaced the radiator under warranty, but that's the only major problem we've had so far.
